Frequently asked questions

What is the OL Academy?

The OL Academy is a training provider and learning material designer that aims to provide authentic learning experiences of exceptional quality through collaboration with industry professional expertise to enhance the skills of employees and the community.

The OL Academy is a function of OL Centre forming part of the Human Capital Department.

It is managed by the OL Academy Manager who reports to the Chief Human Capital Officer. The OL Academy is managed as a separate business entity.

How does managing OL Academy as a separate business entity impact the Group Learning and Development structure?

Group Learning and Development has been integrated into the Group Talent department to ensure success in talent and succession development. The Learning and Development Manager now reports to the Talent Manager.

The Learning and Development department plays a pivotal role in shaping development pathways: the academy oversees and manages programmes aimed at improving skills and aligning with industry and organisational standards, while the L&D department regularly communicates with the academy to identify and recommend group-specific courses to be developed.

In short, the L&D Department manages learning pathways and the OL Academy manages the design, development and implementation of courses.

What are the OL Academy's goals?

1. To be an accredited training provider with the Namibia Qualifications Authority
2. To design and deliver impactful credit-bearing courses with industry subject matter experts
3. To register courses on the Namibian Qualifications Framework
4. To provide education services against accreditation standards
5. To establish sustainable relationships with key partners
6. To make courses accessible by leveraging online learning technology

Is the academy accredited with the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA)?

The certificate in Hospitality General Management obtained accreditation in June 2025 on NQF Level 5. The OL Academy will continue to apply for accreditation on selected programmes.

Why is it important that the OL Academy is accredited with the NQA?

When the Academy is accredited with the NQA, qualifications and courses become credit-bearing and are delivered against specific quality standards to ensure learners meet competence requirements and maintain credibility in the market.

Accreditation is also required from the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) to receive funding for apprentice training. Additionally, international funds available for skills development in emerging industries such as Green Hydrogen, Oil & Gas and technical skills require training providers to be accredited with the NQA.

What does it mean for a qualification or course to be credit-bearing?

When a course is credit-bearing, it can accumulate credits towards a recognised qualification on the Namibian Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Does the OL Academy only provide credit-bearing courses?

No, the OL Academy also provides non-credit-bearing courses based on the needs of the business or individual Operating Companies (OpCos).

What is the vision of the OL Academy?

The OL Academy's vision is: "Leaving memorable experiences through Authenticity, Care and Passion."

We aim to provide consistent, memorable training and development experiences that empower confident and inspired people who deliver exceptional services with authenticity, care and passion in everything they do.

How does the academy align with the Group's Vision for 2029?

N$ 2.5 billion EBIT: By providing cost-effective training and creating an additional revenue stream through external training services
GPTW Global Top 10: By providing training and development opportunities for professional growth
OL Persona Score > 85%: Through developing confident and inspired people delivering excellence, expertise, know-how, exceptional standards and leadership

Who is eligible to take a course provided by the OL Academy?
